Customer Reviews

a little pricey for a block of wood with slots, but...5
I recently started upgrading my knives to R.H. Forschner by Victorinox. I didn't continue with the block from my old set because the large 8' Chef's knife did not fit properly. I was concerned that someone might inadvertently cut himself/herself. I assumed (correctly) that my new Victorinox knives would fit this particular block would. In fact I just noticed that there is Forschner by Victorinox set that includes this block plus the knives. In the end I am happy with this knife storage block. It is stylish and very functional.

Product Description

The R H Forschner by Victorinox Round-Tip, Wavy Edge Paring Knife features high carbon, stainless steel blade, hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen. A special tempering process is used to produce an edge that can be resharpened over and over again, so the knife can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Victorinox handles are ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension. They provide a natural fit. A good heft and comfortable, positive grip are indications of a well-made knife. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria. Customer Reviews

Excellent knife - watch out for the tip!4
I bought this knife to use as a slicing knife for soft things like tomatoes and kiwis. It works great and can also used for slicing carrots, potatoes, celery, citrus, etc. The cutting edge extends part way around the tip of the knife, so be careful as this baby is very sharp and it's easy to cut yourself because of the shape of the blade. I managed to slice two parallel cuts in a finger getting it out of the !#@%&! clamshell package! It's lightweight, well balanced, the handle is textured and non-slip, and the edge is wavy, not serrated, so it makes smooth cuts. It's a great little utility knife.

Great knife for fruits and veggies.5
This knife gets a ton of use in our kitchen. It is deadly sharp - be careful when you start using it, or you'll cut yourself like I did! We mainly use it for fruits and veggies. The serrated blade bites right through tough skins like tomato skins and orange peels, and through other tough parts like apple and pear cores. We don't use it for dicing, because it isn't as efficient for that kind of work as a (non-serrated) chef's knife. But it still gets at least as much use in our kitchen as the pricey Wusthof chef's knife. A really great knife for the price. We're getting another one so that at least one of these little guys will always be clean and ready to use.

Great all purpose prep knife 5
This is a superb prep knife that can be used for almost anything in cooking. I find myself over-reaching its bounds at times because it is so sharp and easy to use that I forget about larger knives nearby in the kitchen. Given its size and price, it would make a good steak knife in a geek household.

Amazon.com Review
From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army knife a century ago comes this classic version of the pocket knife. It contains six tools that put life in order again when they're needed. Measuring just 2-1/4 inches long--less than a pack of gum--and sheathed in translucent blue plastic, the Classic pocket knife is a toolbox and manicure kit small enough to fit into a pocket. (It also comes with a key ring.) Stainless-steel tools contained inside are a knife blade, scissors, a nail file with a screwdriver tip, a removable plastic toothpick, and removable tweezers. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews

A Trusty Little Pocket Toolbox5
This particular pocketknife has become one of my personal favorites for many reasons. For it's small size it might appear to be a sissy, but it will out do any single blade or three-blade pocketknife of comparable dimension with it's extra utilitarian options.

When all tools are folded in, the unit measures about two and a forth inches long or a little more that five and a half centimeters. Weighing just a few grams, it's a pocketknife that is basically so light; you won't even notice you're carrying it. Comes with a single blade which is about one and a half inches long (3.5 cm), a nail file with a regular screwdriver head, toothpick, tweezers, scissors and a tiny key ring for attachment, not to mention the Swiss Army quality.

Often inside or out, I'm doing some kind of small project that involves typical constructive handy work, and have come to love the tweezers on this contraption. So nice to have that on hand the moment I get a splinter, especially when dealing with a painfully nasty one from fiberglass. I can just reach into my pocket; use the tweezers to pull out the sliver right on the spot, thus preventing infection and further aggravation. The least useful tool for me on this pocketknife has been the toothpick, I never seen it as anything grand, but it's there anyway and doesn't take up too much space.

All tools except the toothpick are made of stainless steel, and I was particularly impressed with the scissors, made in good quality construction that will enable it to last for a long while. The toothpick on the other hand is made of a plastic, durable enough for it's designated task. To use them, the toothpick and tweezers slide out of their slots and detach from the complete unit itself. This might create a potential for loss with these pieces, if they're not returned to their rightful slots after use. But the only other draw back that I can see with this pocketknife is the small size might make it hard to operate. If you're not very nimble with your fingers, catching the groves on the tool edges to open them might be a little difficult. But generally speaking, all features are easy to pull open and put into position when desired.

Although it's not exactly intended for heavy-duty work, it's still a fantastic all-purpose tool well adapted for everyday encounters, like simply opening a box or envelope, cutting a string with a tight knot, or whittling a stick for roasting marshmallows. This little gadget provides the tool necessities and will save the day many times over. Plus the smaller compact size makes it travel a lot easier in the pocket and the transparent blue color makes it stylish and unique from its Swiss kin. Simply made for resourceful people with a strong desire for things of ingenuity and practicality.

Terrific Litle Keychain Tool5
I've been carrying these little knives on my keychain for over twenty years. These pocket knives have done terrific service all this time, opening packages, cutting up fruit, removing splinters and all of the light-duty chores that this minature knife was designed to to. My only complaints are not the knife's fault: (1) when I remove the knife from my keychain, it's doomed. I'll lose it before it ever gets the chance to return to my purse, and (2) cow orkers and the like "accidentally" pick them up, and they disappear forever. Airport security considers these knives to be deadly weapons, although the only danger would be from a plane crew laughing themselves to death at the sight of a hijacker trying to overcome someone with a two inch long knife. But for trimming an errant nail or cutting an apple into manageable chunks, this is a great little tool.

Utilitarian 'Le Must'5
A small Swiss Army knife has been my constant companion for the last 30 years. It's uses are myriad & often. They last like objects made 'like they used to make them'. This one is a lot more attractive than it's predecessor which, although still useful, is showing it's 28 year age.

Best of the Victorinox Line!5
I have always wanted a Swiss Army Knife, probably because I watched too much Macgyver. I ordered the Swiss Champ from Amazon (Which has the best bargain anywhere!) and forgot how big it was. When I got it I was kind of overwhelmed and knew it wouldn't be carried around in my pocket all the time. It is definitely more of a Multi Tool than a pocket Knife. So I looked around and it was a choice between the Ranger and the Craftsman. They are basically the same except that the Ranger has a corkscrew and the Craftsman has a Philips Head screwdriver instead plus the pliers. I really didn't find it necessary to have a set of pliers plus, most Philips head screws can easily be screwed in by a flat head anyway. The pliers would have added a few more millimeters and might have made the knife feel too wide. The Ranger is a great all around tool and not too big for my average sized hands.

A well thought out selection of tools on this model5
The Ranger is with one exception, the same exact knife model that has been sent up for 20 years on Space shuttle missions as NASA issue. That difference is it has a corkscrew, replacing the phillips screwdriver in the same location on the knife, all other things are the same. They called the model with the phillips "Master Craftsman" and is no longer made.
The Ranger will handle a lot of different tasks with its tool set. It is even equipped to saw through metal, and wood. A truly
versatile knife worthy of the MacGiver in you life, or yourself.
And a good balance between size/weight/abilities.Its alot in one small package.

Never failed me!5
I've always had this swiss army knife on every camping/hiking trip I took for the past 8 years. It is a great tool to have around, very sturdy, and gets the job done.

Forschner knives rock!5
I bought this strictly because I was so pleased with the Forschner 8-inch chef's knife I bought a few months ago and was not disappointed. Chopped rock hard bulk chocolate like it was butter, made short work of crusty-outside soft-inside baguettes, and effortlessly sliced tomato wafer thin.
These Forschner knives are the best quality for value PRODUCTS, not just knives, I've ever encountered. Buy some!

WONDER KNIFE5
THIS IS A FANTASTIC BREAD KNIFE. SLICES RIGHT THROUGH CRUSTY BREADS WITH- OUT TEARING THEM APART. ALSO IS GREAT WITH TOMATOES.

Excellent bread knife, great value5
Forschner knives are SO good for the money, and this one is my favorite. If you ever slice French bread, artisan bread, anything that needs a sharp serrated blade with the ability to make perfect slices, this is it. You will never squash a loaf of bread again.

Nice medium knife5
I don't like to use a big heavy and rigid chef's knife for most chopping tasks, so I always found myself using a paring knife with a little flex. Paring knives also have their limitations though, so I have been looking for a knife somewhere in between.

This little beauty fits the bill perfectly and has quickly become the workhorse of my knife collection. The handle is much more comfortable and grippy than a classic knife and the unusual shape of the blade allows both slicing and rocking chopping with equal ease.

A great 'in-between' knife.

Forschner 5" Mini Chef's Knife5
It's amazing how many knives I have bought and simply do not use. After working in a commercial kitchen for a while, I can tell you that nothing beats the Forschner brand of knife with the Fibrox handle. They are well balanced, easy to clean, and hold a very good edge. This 5" knife is one I use often. In fact, if I'm not using my 10" chef's knife, odds are this one is in my hand. If you are looking to create a great set of knives, this is a great place to start.

Forschner knife5
I have used this knife for several weeks now and love it. I have a set of Chicago cutlery that I have problems keeping sharp - even with a ceramic sharpener and steel. The plastic handle of the Forschner is nice as I don't have to worry about soaking a wooden handle (like in the Chicago cutlery) in the dishwater too long. The wooden hangles tend to swell and discolor over time with too much water exposure. This knife is very sharp. My husband cut himself while preparing a meal. I have not had to sharpen it yet. I hope to find that it is easy to sharpen when needed and maintains its sharpness.

Customer Reviews

Victorinox Beats Wenger In Quality5

I am somewhat of an unqualified expert on the Victorinox Swiss Army Knives, I currently own 4 of them, and one Wenger Executive. If you are going back and forth debating which is better, in my experience the Victorinox is superior in blade quality and construction. The Wenger knives have more "wiggle" in the blade and just don't feel as solid.

The Silver Alox Soldier is a fine looking knife. I really prefer the look and style to any other Swiss Army red or black. It feels heavier, and the handle material isn't going to chip or crack. Good enough to put in your back or front pocket without being too heavy, and a nice mix of tools. I also have the Silver Alox Harvester, which is the same knife with a sawblade added. You wouldn't think it would make much of a difference, but the Soldier is noticeably lighter in your pocket, so if weight is a big deal for you and you can sacrafice the sawblade, this knife would be ideal for you.

Best Swiss Army Knife Ever Made5
In my opinion, this is the best Swiss Army knife ever made. It is the sturdiest of all the knives, and has only the necessary tools. Perfect for camping/backpacking, and as a gift to friends and family.

PROS:

-The knife blade is longer and thicker (sturdier) than the knife blades on other Swiss Army knife models.
-Aluminum Handles. The classic red plastic handles on the other models will eventually crack and fall off after a few years of regular use. The aluminum sides on this knife will never break, and they offer superior grip.
-Compact and Lightweight.
-It's the official army knife of Swiss soldiers, so it must be good!

CONS:

1. The reamer may not be very useful for many people. However, it has many other uses if you get creative.

Another absolute gem5
I bought this knife to replace an older one that I "lost" at an airport security check (forgot to empty that pocket at home.)

It appears to be exactly the same knife as the Swiss Army Pioneer Pocket Knife, which I also bought ("just to see..."), except that this one has a key ring.

They are both absolute gems, each has a small variety of tools that are extremely useful and is not overloaded with "fun" stuff that just add to the weight and awkwardness. The metal is hard & sturdy enough that you can really do some prying without damaging the blades, the knife blade is sharp and will hopefully stay that way for a while (good metal), the can-opener works well, the shape of the small screwdriver lets you wriggle it into the smallest of openings to do the pry thing, and the blade remains un-nicked so continues to work well as a screwdriver afterward.
Also, the handle is metal, not plastic, so I can carry it (for years?) in the same pocket with my keys, with no chipping or loosening of the side plates. A very good design! and I'm grateful that the Company continues to make such a useful piece, when they undoubtedly earn a lot more profit from the big, fancy, multi-mega-bladed tools - which may be good in a toolbox, but not in a pocket!

ANOTHER EXCELLENT AMAZON PURCHASE.5
I love good quality knives, but had never found one that satisfied me for slicing tomatoes. This is the answer. The special cutting blade cuts through tomatoes like butter only better. I do not have a problem with the lessor expensive handle. I am certain it will last indefinitely. Only time will tell how long the blade will keep it's wonderful edge. I think a very long, long time based on what I have perceived so far about it's quality. I highly recommend this little jewel. If you cut tomatoes, you will love this.

free!5
What's not to like about this knife? It's a great size for large paring jobs, slicing small breads like a roll, bagel, or baguette, hard cheeses, fruits and veggies, even meats and fish, great steak knife if you need an extra, cutting a sandwich in half, pretty much anything. Best of all, it was free because I bought over $50 worth of other Victorinox knives! I purchased 8 other Victorinox knives at the same time, and I'd say that, ironically, this free one is the one I use most often so far.

Great for tomatoes5
This knife can cut tomatoes into very thin slices. No more mushy tomatoes for sandwiches. It also cuts bagel very well. I find myself picking this knife for a lot of my slicing needs.

Great Tool 5
I'm glad to finally have the opportunity to praise the Swiss Champ multi-tool knife in a public forum. It seems like mine has served me reliably for almost 2 decades, mine has literally been around the world with me, and I usually have some use for it almost daily. The tools, for the most part, are practical and functional, though they are nicely compacted into a 3 1/2" package. I do have some "wishes" for improvements, but overall, I just love my Swiss Champ and can overlook the minor faults (I'll mention some later).

The most frequently used tools for me are the SCISSORS (great for anything from paper to personal grooming), the TWEEZERS, and the LARGE SCREWDRIVER/bottle opener (mostly for prying). The small set of PLIERS/wire cutters would seem to be of limited use, but they are made with such precise tolerances that they make excellent, hardy tweezers also. They are handy for gripping small things, bending metal with leverage, holding objects close to a flame, and untying those impossible little knots. One of the best functioning tools IMO is the little SAW! It seems to have a very aggressive and sharp tooth pattern, and will rapidly saw through wood and tree branches better than some full-size hand saws. The LARGE CLIP POINT KNIFE BLADE and the SMALL CLIP POINT KNIFE BLADE come with a scalpel-sharp factory sharpening (I'm not kidding... be very careful). Not enough space here to list all the uses that I've put the blades through over the years, but suffice it to say, it's a good, sharp, cutting instrument. I've never used the FISH SCALER for fish, but it also has a handy metric/english RULER on it, and, I have used the little HOOK DISGORGER prongs on the end as a sort of 2 tined fork! The little MAGNIFYING GLASS is really quite powerful (and replaces my separate field lenses), and on one occasion, I used it to start a fire when I had no matches. The MINI PEN comes in handy occasionally when you have no writing instrument available (and it works decently). Pen refills are inexpensive. Both the LEATHER AWL and the METAL SAW/FILE are useful for crafting and fabrication. When used in a twisting motion, the LEATHER AWL works very effectively in shaving out a perfectly round hole through leather. I have made and repaired clothes, shelter, and other tools with it. The CORKSCREW comes in handy (and works well) when needed, but more importantly, it stores the little MICRO-SCREWDRIVER in it's spiral whorls. There is a small STRAIGHT PIN hidden in the scales behind the corkscrew BTW, useful for splinter removal, magnetized to make a float compass, or in a pinch, to be bent into a fish hook. I use the MICRO-SCREWDRIVER on eyeglasses and small electronic devices, like watches. The CAN OPENER is functional, but you'll get tired of the repetitive motion required to open just one can. But when you're hungry, who cares. Right? I rarely use the PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER or the plastic TOOTHPICK. I have never used the strange looking HOOK thingy(which I'm told is used to carry packages tied with string in Europe), nor the mini-CHISEL, but I know they are there!

If I had to mention the few minor shortcomings of the Swiss Champ, it would be, ironically, with the knife blades. I would merely wish that the MAIN BLADE was locking, a feature that Wenger incorporates, but not Victorinox. Also, the blades are just a tad bit tricky to deploy if you have big fingers or if you just trimmed your fingernails, so I wish it had a raised thumb knob or hole to ease opening. Finally, I thought that having the two clip point blades is redundant. I would wish that one of the blades (perhaps the large one) could be replaced with a blunt, serrated or semi-serrated sheep's foot blade (practical for quick rope cutting or rescue applications). I wish the LARGE SCREWDRIVER/bottle opener was locking also (as it tends to close on you when you are applying pressure to a screw or abusing it to pry something). Though it is not a criticism of the Swiss Champ, Victorinox has made even higher model upgrade Swiss knives (loaded with even more tools!) but I don't think they were vast practical improvements over the Swiss Champ. For example, on some newer models, the interchangeable screwdriver bits are neat, usually require separate carrying of the spare tips. Most of newest improvements involve modifications to the exterior scales (like adding a watch, a compass, USB flash drive, or an LED light). I personally don't like to rely solely on electronic devices that use expendable batteries, nor mix them with my hand tools (due to the ruggedness I require of tools, and chance of breakage for the electronics). And note: a compass does NOT function reliably in proximity to ferrous metal (like a Swiss Army Knife). My final wish is that the plain smooth scales be modified as a practical grip/resource also. My suggestions: 1) make the scales out of hardened checkered rubber for better grip, or some grippy knurled plastic. 2) emboss, engrave or cast some brief practical information on the scales, like the International Morse Alphabet 3) utilize the unused portions of the scales to store more items like small flints, a small magnet, an eyed sewing needle, or a small heliograph (like the one in the Swiss Champ SOS Kit).

I think that whether you are anything from an urban traveler to an outdoor survivalist, you will find that the Swiss Champ will serve you well for decades. There are a couple of multi-tools out there that I might recommend for some enhanced, higher-tech, tool qualities, but the Swiss Champ remains a durable, compact and useful workhorse. It remains one of my most valued possessions.

Get the one without a fish scaler.4
This knife has it all. Well at least one to many things. I.e. fish scaler. Skip this version and get the one without it. When scaling a fish the scales get into the knife and are hard to clean out. Also the plastic lens of the magnifier will scratch over time. The pliers are a bit on the light duty side but handy. On the other hand, having a hole in the leather awl is great as you can actually sew something! The eye glass screw driver works great. The file has teeth on the edge and will cut glass bottles or aluminum. The sizzors are the standard by which all other tool knife sizzors are judged.

5 stars from a GIRL!5
Ok, I know what you're thinking. I'm a girl with a large pocketknife...hmmm. But honestly, I love this thing. Now, I don't use it to saw wood or cut wire fences, but this is very useful for me to have. I don't use this as a "pocket" knife....more or less, it's a "purse" knife. It has gotten me out of quite a few jams in the year that I've owned it. It is always with me, and I'm thinking about buying another one to keep in my car for when I forget it. You never know when you may need this handy tool. It has everything you could possibly need, maybe a little more than I would need, but still, I love it. I also don't have many tools in my home, so when there's a small need for a screwdriver or a small pair of pliers, I just go to my swiss army knife, and it does the job.

Guys, get your girls one - to keep in their cars. They may laugh and think you're crazy for buying them a pocketknife, but what are they going to do if they are in a bind and you're not around with your knife?

Exactly what's useful5
I don't open a lot of wine bottles outside of a kitchen, I don't study things with a tiny magnifying glass, and I don't often scale fish. I just need a great knife with the essentials and this knife provides exactly that.

The serrated locking main blade is great. I use the one handed feature all the time: my left hand will be occupied holding something, but my right can easily grab the knife and open the blade. Having serrations makes cutting twine, threads, and rope much easier.

One warning though: at almost 4.5" this knife is fairly large; larger than most pocket knives. For some people that might rule the "pocket" part out.

According to Victorinox, this knife is the official field knife for the German Army. I can see why: it contains exactly what's needed without the superfluous attachments that weigh down so many other knives.

A versatile if slightly larger SAK5
I love the locking blade, and I love how it can be opened with one hand (the other is usually whatever it is you need to cut, right?). I also love the fact that the flat-head screwdriver locks when it's open, saving your hand from the accidental snap-pinch you can get while using it on other models. The weight and feel of this knife are pefect too. The only downside is it's slightly larger proportions. This is longer than the 3 1/2" models, and it makes a difference. If you're planning on carrying this in your pocket, it needs to be one of the only things in there. Still, if your lifestyle demands a slightly more rugged SAK than usual, this is a great choice.

GOOD ONE!!!4
Its a very good pocket knife, it has everything I need, no a lot of tools that you'll never use.
Just one complain, the philips screw driver, why isn it in straight position when you open it? I mean like the bottle opener and the other screw driver, why in "T SHAPE"? this makes a little dificult to use it or in sometimes useless.

Victorinox will have to reconsider the position.

For that reason I'm giving it 4 Stars.

The Construction in general, the quality of the plastic and the finish at all is FIRST CLASS!!!

Victorinox 6-Inch Flex Boning Knife with Fibrox Handle

Product Description

The R H Forschner by Victorinox Boning Knife features a 6-inch straight, flexible blade to maneuver around bones. High carbon, stainless steel blade, is hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen. A sure-grip handle with a finger guard is valuable feature since the handle inevitably gets greasy, wet, or both. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria.

Comfortable handle and sharp blade5
America's Test Kitchen recommended this boning knife and they were right. This knife is sharp straight out of the package. I used it the first time to cut the silver skin from some beef and it was so easy using this knife. The sharp point and long thin blade enabled me to get right under the silver skin and I did not cut into the meat itself. I was able to cut neatly and precisely where I wanted to due to the comfortable handle and sharp blade. Why pay a fortune for a boning knife when this one gets the job done quick and neat. Good job America's Test Kitchen and thanks R H Forschner for making another affordable but quality product.

Great Hog Butchering Tool5
I am a hunter and I process the game I take myself. This boning knife was just what I needed to speed the process along. I recently processed a 100 lb. hog. The knife was flexible and narrow which allowed me to get the most from the bone. The handle was easy to grip. The blade held a good edge through the entire hog, I did not need to stop and steel the blade.

I used it the following week to process a deer with the same good experience.

At this great price how can you go wrong.

Terrific knife for the price5
Opened the knife from the package, and it was perfectly sharp. It fits in the hand well, and cuts well. America's Test Kitchen suggested the knives for price and quality, and to me they were right on every aspect.

Nice small chef's knife5
This is a wonderful knife. I don't think I've used a really good knife since I was growing up. My dad was a master cook and always had good knives that he kept razor sharp, but I've never owned a good set of knives. I wanted to buy some good quality kitchen knives but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars, so I started reading reviews here and other places online. The Forschner knives had great reviews and I liked the idea of the Fibrox handle, which is slightly textured. I feel like I made a great choice. The knife is sharp, lightweight, and has good balance. The Fibrox handle is perfect for me; easy to grip and non-slip. I have arthritis and some weakness in my hands so knives with wooden or hard handles hurt my hands. This knife is a joy to use; it makes slicing and chopping for meals fun and easy and I find myself cooking more because of it. I intend to buy more of this line of knives. Highly recommended.

Great utility/small chef's knife5
I bought this knife primarily for cutting up chickens, which it handles with ease. It outshines my cheapo chef's knife from college so much that I've been using it for all of my slicing and dicing until I can get the 8-inch version. The six-inch blade is a bit small for some tasks, so it's better as a compliment to a larger knife rather than a replacement. It's a great knife to have around when a chef's knife is too big for the job. You really have to work to get the knife to slip out of your hand; the Fibrox is an amazing material. Also note that the blade is angled somewhat from the handle, which keeps your fingers from hitting the cutting board when you're slicing.

Better than expected5
I purchased this knife and an 8-inch chef's knife (Forschner) at the same time, thinking that the 8-incher would be my primary knife. Everyone in the family uses this 6" knife all the time. It fits the hand so well and chops veggies superbly. A great bargain too.

Fantastic, Versatile Knife for the Price5
I recently made a career change into the culinary world, and this knife remains my favorite after 6 months of heavy use and abuse. Whether I'm slicing a cake, carving a turkey, or chopping mushrooms, this is the knife I reach for first. (It's also the knife the other cooks want to borrow most often.)

Most importantly, the knife is extremely sharp - I remember opening the package and finding a knife that was literally razor-sharp. I sharpen it at least once a day, and it seems to re-sharpen more quickly and stay sharp longer than my other knives.

Secondly, the handle it terrific. It is ergononically shaped and is made of a hardened rubber material, so it is much easier to grip than knives with handles of metal, wood, phenolic compound, etc... (you'll really appreciate the handle when dealing with slippery items such as raw chicken or fish).

Finally, the blade itself is nice and wide, so you can use it as a scoop to shuttle ingredients to and from your cutting board.

The one possible drawback is the weight of the knife - it doesn't have the heft of other knives I've used. However, some people may actually appreciate the lighter weight.

Can you find a better knife out there? Yes, but you'll have to pay upwards of $100 (and sometime MUCH more) for it. In my book, the price/performance ratio of this knife warrant 5 stars.

Great knife for the price4
I received this knife as a Christmas present and so far, I am pleased. What struck me first about this knife is how wonderfully sharp it is. I also own a Wusthoff Santoku (which I love, too) and this knife was just as sharp right out of the box as the Wusthoff was. It is rather comfortable in the hand and the shape of the blade allows for very smooth rocking and chopping action, which is wonderful when you are chopping vegetables. It is also wonderful for carving meats, with its long sharp blade. The grip is slightly larger than I would like, making it a bit more cumbersome to hold than my Wusthoff, but that is not a big issue for me considering the price point of this knife. If price were not an issue and I had to choose between a Wusthoff and a Forschner Fibrox, then I would probably choose a Wusthoff. But being that a Wusthoff of this size would be at least $50 more, then price does come to play. If money is no object, then choose the wonderful German steel of a Wusthoff or look into the Japanese steel of a Shun. But if you are like most of us and have to consider price, then I do believe you will be happy with a Forschner Fibrox Chef's Knife.

A Definite Winner5
I've had this knife for several years now and it's one of my 2 favorites. I,in fact, have 2 of them, one in the house and one in our RV.This knIfe has an excellent blade that sharpens well (I use an Edgepro sharpener) and maintains that edge over time. I have a set of Cutco and some Chicago Cutlery knives and none of them compare with the Forschner. I have several different Forschner knives and all of them are excellent. You'd have to spend considerably more to find a comparable knife. My other favorite, by the way, is a handmade chef's knife crafted by a fellow in Oregon from old sawmill saw blades. A wonderful, hefty knife. Try a Forschner, you won't be sorry.
